A delight for the senses (the food anyway)

Wonderful 'surprise menu' - beautiful to look at and tasted amazing from starter to desert. The staff were very accommodating with my gluten intolerance and made every effort to substitute the elements in the dishes rather than take away and also provided tasty warmed GF bread. The service was attentive and because I like to know what goes into my food I was interested in the explanation of the dishes and the wine that accompanied them. Although, I would always tend towards purchasing European wines (reduces airmiles and is more sustainable). Although I didn't have a problem with the main course, for those who would not eat certain meat, it may have been advisable to have mentioned this before purchasing the 'Surprise Menu'. The only negative, was the decor which I found didn't fit the ethos of the food. The artwork wasn't at all to my taste (girls and cars), if filled the space but added nothing to the ambience. In a city with so much incredible modern art I would have expected to see something more creative on the walls to compliment the innovative menu.

We had the three course surprise menu and we don't regret it one bit. The food was plated amazingly and the food was delicious you just couldn't stop eating!

Wow! Amazing!

Amazing culinary experience. It was a place worth the money. The service, food and method of administration worth a Michelin recommendation. We recommend a surprise 3 course menu - it is enough to be full. Recommend it and come back for sure!

Un gastronomique original et accessible
10

Out of this world

3 days on and I can scarcely believe I had this food experience. I eat a lot of relatively good food and go to some decent places when time and budget allow. But this was just like nothing else. 4 course surprise menu with wine comes in around 65e per head. That also includes a couple of bites to kick things off and freshly baked bread which is a different class. When I asked for some more it took 20 minutes. Because it's baked to order. The fusion of all manner of things around a piece of fish or on 1 course some of the most delicately prepared veal, just created tastes that I'd never had. Each course perfectly matched by a well chosen glass of wine that we would never have ordered. The staff are attentive and generous without being over bearing and annoying. And the pudding was an astonishing mix of unpredictable flavours in varying forms and consistencies. This is a must. Please go, but don't tell anyone until you've left town so you can get a table. It's quite a small place. But quite perfect. ------- Note from the vegetarian...! I normally hold back from commenting as, let's be honest, Pete can talk enough for both of us! But the veggie surprise menu deserves a special mention so here goes... As well as everything he said, the veggie courses were stunning - no lazy afterthoughts here, and even better, no sense that there was something missing. I've been waiting my whole life for a meal like this, it was fabulous. I won't spoil the surprise, but the pomegranate and beetroot combo and the carrots with tarragon were two of the stars. I always wondered how the bloke on masterchef could get so excited about a carrot mousse - I mean how good can a carrot taste, right?! - but now I know! Food heaven.

Delicious food

On our only night in Amsterdam we decided to try the hotel restaurant, Senses, after reading such great reviews. All 3 of us decided on the 5 course "Chef's Surprise" for our meal and we were not disappointed. It was wonderful to be able to say what we cannot (due to allergies) and do not like to eat. Not only was the food delicious but it was also beautifully prepared and presented.

Caught our eye as said would cater the surprise menu for veggies, and they did, also catering for those veggies I don't like. Excellent food, beautifully presented and served.

Amazing food

Food was fantastic, service was exceptional. We had the "surprise" menu with wine pairings. We had a couple of small restrictions (no seafood for one person, no organ meat for both) which were easily accommodated. Delicious creations, beautiful presentation. Wines were explained well. A highlight of our trip.
